These large stoneware platters start out as large lumps of clay on the wheel and are ‘thrown’ into their flattened state, with the rim being formed last. I often finish off them off with an altered, wavy edge that resembles the flowing plasticity of the clay or I may square them like this one. The flowers and lace pattern is drawn on using slip (liquid clay) after the flowers are added. The wee bowl is decorated both inside and outside. They are fired once, glazed and then fired again in an electric kiln to 1260 degrees Celcius. All are microwave and dishwasher safe.
*There can be slight variations in shape, size or color due to the handmade, small batch, artisan crafted nature of the piece 🙂 In short, this means you will have a unique, one of a kind treasure!
