Wood Fired Soap/Lotion Dispenser Short

This gem was wheelthrown using a stoneware clay with an iron content.  It was handcarved and bisque fired in an electric kiln, then dipped in flashing slip and a carbon trapping shino glaze.  For the final firing wadding, small balls of clay and alumina, are attached to prevent it from being  stuck to the kiln shelves by all the ash flying around the kiln during the firing.  You can see the speckling from the iron in the clay body and the ash.  In addition, the black spots here and there on the piece indicate carbon from the atmosphere during the firing is trapped in the special shino glaze.  Wood firing creates an individual, one of a kind piece every time!
