To give the effect of the swirls underneath the dragonflies, extra slip was left on the piece and textured with a sponge while the wheel was spinning. The dragonflies were added after the piece was drier and trimmed. This wheelthrown, stoneware jar was fired in a wood kiln for 12-13 hours and has both a purple glaze and the brown flashing slip to give a toasty color contrast. It is microwave and dishwasher safe.
